Crucible furnaces are typically used for smaller batch melts and are appreciated for their simplicity and lower initial cost. Rotary furnaces, often employed in recycling operations, offer efficient melting of scrap materials. Each type brings its own balance of capital investment, energy use, and production flexibility.


Fuel choice is a significant consideration in furnace design. Aluminium melting furnaces can be powered by electricity, natural gas, diesel, or alternative fuels such as biofuels. Electric furnaces, including induction types, offer precise temperature control and are considered cleaner and more environmentally friendly. Gas-fired furnaces, on the other hand, are often more cost-effective in regions where natural gas is abundant. The selection of fuel impacts not only the operating cost but also the furnace design, emissions output, and workplace safety protocols.
